Indoor Wireless Networks: An Exploration of Some of the Engineering Issues Involved( PostScript version, PDF version)
Marie Conte
University of Delaware, Newark, DE, May 1995.
In this document we explore some of the unique
idiosyncrasies of the physical layer and MAC sublayer when
implemented in a indoor wireless network. Also investigated
is the current IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN Medium Access Control
(MAC) and Physical Specification draft. This draft is used
primarily for examples of possible solutions to some of the
identified problems associated with wireless networks. Key
differences between the operation of a wired network and a
wireless network are examined. The intent of this document
is to leave the reader with an understanding of some of the
obstacles that exist when engineering a wireless network
and how these obstacles can be surmounted.
